Once again and for the first time in 2017 Newy Pro came to within metres of Casa Del Recky to provide some top shelf "Sports Entertainment" or PRO WRESTLING if ya like (like me)
It was a bumper crowd at the Leaguesy for the show , I must say that the crowds have been growing steadily for the Newy pro shows , always a sign that their doing it right ...
Anywhoo, the curtain jerker for the evening was .....
Now for the uninformed, Newy pro have a series annually where the winner of their matches gets a gauntlet (of ye olde knight style) or two with which they can challenge any Newy pro champion at anytime the gaunletee deems the right time....So this match was a tag MATCH and the participants were
OLIVER YOUNG / ZANE ARTHUR vs CONCRETE DAVISON / ?
Davo grabbed the stick after the intros were completed and intimated forcefully that since he was that Bravison at tournament situations , he didnt need a partner and told Olly and Zane to get ready to be thrashed soundly.
You would think that a two on one would be a decided detriment to the team of one , not this time sportsfans, ye olde time strongman chucked the other two about with abandon, tricking them into clotheslining each other and giving him a hand suplexing each other , sure Olly and Zane got their shots in, that was until Davo got the electric chair plugged in and charged up , shortly after this Concrete got the win and one of the two gauntlets ...jolly good start to the evening I must say.
Next match was for the
which is held by Robbie Eagles who was successful in last years Gaunlet series and his able bodied opponent this night was The Hipster Luchador and a card carrying member of the Social Media Studs {#SMS}, the one and only, Instagraham.
Robbie was heeling it up yabbering back to the noisy fans while he and Insta swapped mexican arm drags , dropkicks , clotheslines and a varying variety of anti gravity based manouvers, I have to hand out cudos to Insta who did his very best to hang with one of the best in ring technicians Australia has produced , if you dont belive google Eagles v Rollins v Brooks from a recent MCW show , WOW is about all you will say while your mouth stays open, anyway, Robbie got the 3 with a some rather interesting piledriverish gizmo, your winner and still champ Robbie Eagle
Yep, the Australian embodiment of Freebird Fantasia returned to Gosford to turn the club into Badstreet Leagues Club and wow the crowd with his homage to Michael Hayes , this is the 2nd time i've seen Hayes and since he won this hit out, I guess that makes him 1-1 on his Gosford score card
this is not to say that Diego didnt take it to the Freebird, the lad gave a fair dinkum go but in between Hayes trying to convince the room of his sexiness Hunter got in some rather wicked shots that got him a eventual 3 count...BADSTREET GOSFORD ....N....S....W...nah dont work
Another card carrying member of #SMS was up next Unsocial Jordan vs the walking six pack and big time Marvel comics fan from the Gong, Michael Spencer and the winner got a birthday cake and general merriment hurled in his direction
The faithful chanted happy birthday while a mexican armdrag-a-thon occured then Spencer started getting the upper hand with a smidge of muay thai with some knee strikes .
Some rather fine mat wrestling was exchanged , then Jordan went to the air but got caught with double knee gut buster Spencer thought he was a shoe in for the cake and song BUT nup, the vlogging champion of the east coast of you tube,, caught the lad from Steel City mentally napping and got the win , Jordans #SMS cohort Instagraham hit the ring , it was at this time , some cynic behind said swerve time , numbnut, of course that didnt happen , mind you Spencer had a whinge about the result , this barrage of whining was met forthwith with a stereo superkick and the SMS boys being the saints they are, they let Mikey have the birthday cake ....right between the bloody eyes , HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM.
Thus the interval arrived and I went and got a Ultimo Guerrero mask to add to the collection from the Nostalgia Now guys and picked up a Concrete Davison Double Guns tour shirt (SEE ENCLOSED PICTURES)
then it was time for the 2nd half of the show and it started out with what can only be called a
Charli Evans hit the ring and said it was too weird to be in her home town and not have a match , but she had seen a legend of wrestling back stage (bit strong) and called him to come to the ring and get whooped, the familiar music hit and Big Fudge ( of the Conco and The Fudge podcast fame ) came to the ring , now i thouight the ice cream fan had retired from in ring action, but apparently he cant give it up and walks around in full gear just in case he gets challenged, fair enough , I probably would too if I was him, ANYWAY
Charli and Fudge got stuck in and after a flurry of armdrags , hip tosses , schoolboys and magistras cradles and just when Fudge was starting to hold his own , The Queen of Gosford , held him down for the 3 count , nice one Evans nice one.
I was under the impression that Sean Kustom was supposed to be in this one, but anywhoo, Jess had a the human block of flats with her and while this would usually be a disadvantage to her opponents its not when one of said opponents is fromn the 3rd cave on the left and is the current , reigning and defending Newy pro Heavyweight Champion, Caveman UGG (UGG, UGG,UGG, UGG) and his partner was the sheila that drives them into a frenzy, the sheila called Shazza McKenzie.
Jess and Shazz started out but the Blue Floozy kept hitting the floor which allowed her huge co hort in to rough Shaz up a bit, eventually Ugg got in and ran into Q about 4 times and amazingly enough dropped the big lad , a rare event I must say, Jess got in and locked Shazz in a fairly nifty cobra clutch , it was at this point that swerve happy numbnut from earlier started kicking the back of my chair, and I missed the finish , suffice it to say Troy & Q probably cheated ...grrr.
time for the main event and to be fair I was torn as to support , heres my reasoning
Jack Bonza is a dastardly heel BUT his our dastardly heel and a heel of a smooth in -ring worker BUT Gavin McGavin is also a pretty damn good wrestler BUT he turned on his partner Mad Mike Massive and shattered my favourite tag team McMassive, so I'm not best pleased with him either , So it was a case of Eeny, meeny, miny, moe grab a heel by the toe I guess
Also I got a few EPW shows and I'd not heard of the Coastal Championship so this was gonna be interesting either way....What an absolutly brilliant technical match, apart from Bonz getting a couple of stitches. Did you know that Bonz can apply a gotch headlock AND banter with ringside at the same time , yeah he can, Bonz and fans were discussing levels of hairsuitness and whether his haircut was natural or mechanical.
It was truly a brilliant back and forth match up and as much as both blokes are #EvilHeels, they can still go , and on this occasion Gavin got one over Bonz but still ..WOW
and thus yet another Gosfordania was concluded ....roll on nthe next one
